The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disqualified 105 aspirants seeking the party’s ticket for the Kwara State House of Assembly election ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The results of the screening exercise, which were pasted at the party secretariat in Ilorin on Thursday, showed that several serving lawmakers seeking second and third terms were among those declared “uncleared” by the screening committee.
According to the list titled “All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Nomination of Candidates for the 2027 General Election,” only 53 of the 158 aspirants who purchased nomination forms were cleared to continue in the race.
In Kwara Central Senatorial District, most incumbent lawmakers seeking re-election scaled through the exercise, except the member representing Alanamu/Ajikobi Constituency, Hon. Ayishat Tundun Alanamu, who was not cleared.
However, several lawmakers from Kwara South failed to secure clearance. Those screened out include Hon. Ganiyu Folabi Salahu of Omupo Constituency and Hon. Owolabi Olatunde Rasaq of Share/Oke-Ode Constituency, both from Ifelodun Local Government Area.
Also declared uncleared were Hon. Bamigboye Joseph, Hon. Omotosho Olakunle Rasaq, and Hon. Yusuf Abdulwaheed Gbenga, representing Oke-Ero, Isin, and Essa/Shawo/Igboidun constituencies respectively.
Meanwhile, lawmakers from Oyun Local Government Area, including the Deputy Speaker of the House, Hon. Ojo Olayiwola Oyebode, were successfully cleared by the committee.
In Kwara North, serving lawmakers from Moro Local Government Area seeking re-election also passed the screening exercise.
The member representing Edu Constituency, Hon. Issa Gideon, who is currently under suspension over alleged misconduct, was among those not cleared for a second-term bid.
Only the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, and the member representing Ekiti Constituency, Hon. Ganiyu Gabriel, did not obtain nomination forms for re-election into the Assembly.
Danladi-Salihu is reportedly among the leading contenders for the APC governorship ticket in Kwara State after participating in the party’s governorship screening in Abuja.
Speaking ahead of the screening exercise, the chairman of the committee, Prof. Success Musa, described the large number of aspirants as a reflection of the APC’s growing popularity in the state.
“We have 158 aspirants for the House of Assembly alone. That is democracy and what APC represents,” he said.
The outcome of the exercise has reportedly generated reactions among party supporters and incumbent lawmakers across the state as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections continue to gather momentum.
