FG reintegrate over 700 former terrorist, sparks public concern

The Federal Government has announced the reintegration of over 700 former terrorist into society following their completion  of a deradicalisation and rehabilitation programme.

Officials say the individuals participated in a government-backed initiative aimed at addressing insurgency through rehabilitation and peaceful reintegration into civilian life.

The programme forms part of wider efforts to curb insecurity by encouraging defections and reducing the number of active fighters involved in violent groups.

However, the development has generated widespread public concern, with many Nigerians questioning the implications for justice, accountability and national security.

Some members of the public argue that the move may overlook the suffering of victims and families affected by insurgent violence, while others have raised fears about the risk of relapse among those being reintegrated.

There are also concerns about the absence of detailed information on post-reintegration monitoring and support mechanisms to ensure that those involved do not return to violent activities.

Despite the criticism, authorities maintain that rehabilitation and reintegration remain essential strategies in ending insurgency and fostering long-term peace.

The Federal Government has yet to outline specific safeguards that will accompany the reintegration process.

  5. First I think a person who has committed such crimes shouldn’t be let back into the same society they’ve worked consciously to destroy.
Secondly how long was this rehabilitation process ?
Were they properly observed and declared fit for society and besides since when do we now say okay you’ve committed a crime just come forward and we send you back to society what stops them from going back when things get hard again?

Also they should be punished for their crimes the law should take it cause on matters like this.

  9. It's very unfortunate. Those who massacre the lives of innocent people and destroy their properties leaving them with nothing to start life with are now being "reconciled" back to the society they destroyed as saints.

It's very clear Those behind the bandits, kidnapping and whatever problem we face in this country.

Those fighting for the right course are the rebels while the rebels are the saints.

May God deliver us from hypocrisy and vile leadership or should I say enslavement.
